2nd natural sciences pupil contest of the primary schools of West Thessaloniki

The 3rd Model Experimental Primary School of Evosmos, the EKFEs of the areas of Evosmos and Neapoli, and the Science Centre and Technology Museum – NOESIS organise a contest which includes experiments, constructions and theatrical events inspired by the area of Natural Sciences, for pupils from Years 5 and 6 under Directorate of Primary Education West Thessaloniki.
This contest aims to increase pupils’ interest in Natural Sciences, as well as to encourage their experimental and communicational skills.
Each school can participate in the competition with up to two groups of 2 to 5 pupils each. Each team can present an experiment, construction, video, theatre play or a presentation of 10 minutes maximum. The theme of the assignments can be related to the modules of the Physics course in the last two years of primary school, but not necessarily limited to these.

Friday, May 8, 2015: Contest phase of the event to be held at the premises of NOESIS Science Centre and Technology Museum
The exact number of teams to participate in the final event will depend on the number of applications and will be announced in mid-March 2015. If, due to the large number of participants a pre-contest phase is required, there will be an announcement during the first ten days of March 2015. The schools will be responsible for the transportation of children to the event sites.
All pupils who take part in the competition will be awarded a participation certificate. Three more prizes (first, second, and third) will be awarded to each class (6 prizes in total) according to the following criteria: project originality, quality of presentation, understanding the project’s natural mechanism (resulting from the answers of the committee) and the ease of diffusion/reproduction by other students. The teachers will also be awarded a participation certificate.
All the projects’ summaries will be included in a volume published by the organisers (with an ISBN) and an article for each award winning project will be published in the online journal “Natural sciences in education” (http://physcool.web.auth.gr/).
